Who doesn’t want to set goals and really achieve them? We all do right? Have you ever noticed how much time you’re wasting planning in vain?
You make plans after plans, set goals after goals, bigger to do lists, smaller to do lists, writing lots of goals setting worksheets and strategies only to end up in the trash, same with your bucket list.
You even break your goals into smaller ones thinking it will be easier to achieve them, you tell yourself that tomorrow it’s going to be different but it’s just the same and after all the trying and struggling somehow… you end up in the same place or even worse.
You just can’t get things done! No time, no motivation no achieved goals no….nothing but stress and disappointment.
Listen, one thing I learned about goals is that when it comes to achieving them there’s no one size fits all and no just one right way to do things. That’s why sometimes, when you’re trying to do what others do you don’t always succeed!
Some people don’t know how to set goals. Some achieve them all the time while others are too afraid to go after them and some don’t have goals in life.
When it comes to reaching goals some people don’t like to waste time while others love to postpone and procrastinate all the time.
We’re the same but also different, we have different ways of doing things. What motivates one person means nothing to the other.
What works for one might not work for the other. There are so many people who succeed with their goals and each has a different way of reaching those goals. The one that works best for them. So what’s the secret?
Even if there’s more than just one way to achieve a goal, all those people who succeed in achieving their goals have ONE thing in common… they WORK for it! They take steps every day to make it happen. If you want to achieve something you have to take some action.
Now, if you’re serious about succeeding with your goals…I do have some easy tips for you to follow when setting goals and help you get things done. You ready? Here we go:
Set Big Goals But Keep It REAL!
Dream as big as you want and set as many goals as you like but keep it real when it comes to achieving them.
Don’t make the mistake of setting a deadline too soon. What are the steps you need to take to achieve your goals? Some reach their goals faster while others need more time. Don’t push it thinking you’ll get there faster. You’ll end up really disappointed.
It’s like running. Let’s say your goal is to run a marathon so you need to prepare. You don’t go running like crazy for 1 hour if you never ran before. You start slow! Then you increase the time while you’re getting stronger and you’re making progress.
You start with 10 minutes of running, then 20, half an hour….and so on till you reach your goal. And this may take weeks even months until you succeed. Same goes with everything else. Set the right time frame that will help you achieve your goals.
When Are You Most Productive?
Maybe you feel more productive in the morning or maybe in the evening? Find out when you’re most productive and use that time to work on your goals. Don’t postpone.
You can also feel more productive for different things at different times of the day! For example I love doing my workout first thing in the morning but when it comes to writing I love doing it in the evening. That’s what works best for me. Find out what works for you.
Take advantage of every moment. Use it as much as you can. When I first started blogging I had moments when I felt very inspired and ideas were coming easily but, I didn’t write them because… I was too busy doing something else at that time.
I told myself that I’ll write them later only to find out that when I actually made time to sit down and write all my ideas vanished! My moment of inspiration was gone.
I learned my lesson and now when an idea comes to my mind I just stop whatever I’m doing and just write. On my phone, on a piece of paper doesn’t matter. The point here is to make the most of your moment. When inspiration knocks don’t postpone it!
To Tell Or Not To Tell
When it comes to telling your goals to other people it can be tricky.
Some tell and some don’t. Like I said in the beginning there’s no one right way. Do what works for you.
Some people will support you. Some will want to help you! Some won’t understand, some will not agree with you, others will try to make you change your mind, to make you give up.
They will give you many reasons why your goal isn’t realizable or realistic! Some will even laugh at your goals. All of this will just make you lose your motivation, put pressure on you and ending up with you not achieving your goals.
So if telling others about your goals keeps you from achieving them don’t tell them.
If telling others about your goals helps you achieve them faster do it! Or tell only the people you trust and you know they will support or help you with your goals.
The Power Of The Habit!
Look, no matter how hard you try if you’re not consistent in what you do you won’t succeed!
Like the marathon I mentioned above. Running once a week will get you some health benefits but it won’t help you run the marathon. But running 4 or 5 days a week will help you make progress and get you closer to your goal.
You have to be consistent in whatever it is you want to achieve. You have to make it a habit!
If you truly want something you make time for it! 5 min, 10 min, half an hour…it doesn’t matter how busy you are you make time for it.
It’s ok to take breaks. But make sure you aren’t making excuses. If you make it a habit to work on your goals every day you will make progress and you will succeed.
Be Flexible
While you’re working on achieving your goals you’ll find out what works and what doesn’t. Keep your mind open and adjust your plan accordingly.
Don’t be afraid to make changes to your plan or even change your goal. Find what works for you. Like I said in the beginning of this article we’re all different. Find what motivates you and what works for you and adjust your plan!
Do You Believe You’ll Succeed?
Believe you can actually do it! If you don’t believe in yourself who will? Be honest with yourself. How much do you want to succeed? You kind of want it, not really up for the work it takes? Maybe you’ll do it…someday?
Keep it simple! You want it or you don’t?
Put Some Passion In It
Some people achieve their goals because they are so freaking passionate about them! Their passion it’s so huge you can’t even explain it. And that’s what drives them. What drives you?
What are you passionate about in life? One of the reasons people don’t reach their goals is because they have no passions in life. Some have no idea what they want in life. So take some time to figure out what you want to do.
Breaking Your Goals Into Smaller Ones Does Work
Write your goals for the day, write your goals for the week and stick with them but keep it real!
Putting too much on your to do list will only cause you more pressure and frustration. Ask yourself what can you do today to get closer to your goal and set some time to do just that!
What’s Your Excuse?
We all have days when we procrastinate. We just don’t feel like doing anything. Excuses are always available and so easy to make. It’s too cold, it’s raining outside, it’s too hot, I’m too sleepy, I have too many things to do, I’ll do it tomorrow, etc. True, some excuses might be real.
So ask yourself one question ” What’s the real reason behind the excuse? “
Think about it. Is it because you REALLY need some time to rest? To recharge your batteries? Is it a REAL reason that holds you from reaching your goal? Or it’s just you being too LAZY?
Just be honest with yourself.
If you really need time to rest or solve a situation… take as much as you need but, if you’re just trying to find an excuse because you’re too lazy to do it or afraid, try to push through it!
Every day you make choices and each choice you make shapes your life. It can take you closer or further from your goals. And as I like to say, no tips or tricks will help if you don’t put some effort in!
Even if some days it’s just a little effort, even if sometimes you’re making baby steps it’s still better than nothing.
Never Give Up!
Reaching your goals it’s not always easy. It takes time and effort and sometimes you get stuck. It might feel like you’re not making any progress. It might feel like you want to give up. Don’t!
We all have setbacks and we all hit bumps on the road but that’s when you have to work even harder. You try, you fail and than you try again.
Remember that failure it’s not the end. It’s actually a success! It teaches you what works and what doesn’t! So don’t be afraid to fail. See failure as a success…we all fail that’s how we learn!

Thank you Irene! 🙂
Good advice! Goals and dreams are essential to life… but sometimes it’s hard to see how on earth we can achieve those goals. That’s why I agree with you about breaking down goals into more achievable small ones.
Glad you like it my friend. Yes, breaking them into smaller goals helps a lot. Ask yourself what can you do today to get closer to your goal. Write it down and set some time to do just that.

So many things to take away – but the fav here is the “real reason behind the excuse”
Being flexible is a great bit of advice! This way if things don’t work as you’d imagined you can then break down the goal a bit more to reach it, just maybe in a bit more time than you’d originally thought. Great tips!
Exactly Christy! Being flexible is very important. So many times you start with something in mind only to end up in a different direction, usually a better one!
Have a great day!
