In life you sometimes get to a point where you’re stuck, you’re stuck in moments from your past. Nothing is like it used to be.
Maybe you look back to a time when you were happy. You think life was easier, better and you keep on holding on to those moments, those feelings.
You can even feel them as alive as the first day! You look back because you never let them go.
Maybe everything happened so fast and all of a sudden that you just didn’t have enough time to adjust, to realize and get used to your new life.
Or it happened a long time ago but you can’t move on.
You keep on replaying them in your mind hoping that somehow you’ll get them back, those feelings, those people, that time, maybe a second chance… or maybe you just got lost in your past and the only thing you want back it’s the old YOU!
Somehow replaying endlessly brings you some sort of short happiness.
Or maybe you’re stuck on a bad situation constantly thinking about it and why it happened.
You keep replaying it in your mind trying to understand it. What went wrong, whose fault was it, how you could have done it better… you just can’t seem to get it out of your head.
You think about those moments because they made a difference in your life and somehow things were never the same again.
Sometimes life hits you when you least expect it! Sometimes you feel like life’s not fair and other times things just don’t depend on you! But the truth is that most of the time you’re in control!
Think about this for a moment…ask yourself what do you gain by constantly thinking about those times? Have you ever paid attention to how many hours, days, weeks…maybe years you spend thinking about the past or a certain situation?
Listen, there is nothing wrong with thinking about the past. We all do it. What is not ok is letting the past stop you from living your life.
Entertaining those thoughts won’t change anything. You can’t go back in time and do it differently. But you can totally learn from each situation you go through and make things better for the future.
It’s wise to learn from your experiences, if they are wonderful you’ll have them for the rest of your life. Take those wonderful memories, they are a sure thing that life can be great!
Look, I know it’s not easy to just let go. But things change all the time. Nothing stays the same.
Everything in the universe changes. Trees, plants, animals, people, places…everything changes. Your body changes all the time, your hair, your nails, your cells.
Clinging onto a thing it’s not good for you. It’s not healthy and it’s stopping you from growing, from moving on to a new chapter…to a better you!
So you made some mistakes? Should you continue to feel bad about them? It’s totally ok and normal to regret or feel bad but…for how long? The only thing you’ll achieve it will be wasting time and ruining your life.
Listen, we all make mistakes and we all fail. But that should not hold you back from living your life! Learn from your mistakes and make them a source of motivation to never give up. Let them motivate you to become a better and wiser person.
Start focusing on NOW! The past is gone and the future is unknown. All you really have is the moment of now. Are you going to waste it or use it to build the life you want to live?
As hard as it might be, just take it step by step. Yes, you’ll have moments when you won’t see much progress, you’ll feel like you’re making one step forward and so many backwards.
Don’t be so hard on yourself. A small progress is still better than nothing. Just keep going! You will get better and things will be easier.
Here’s another way to think about it…have you ever tried to lose some weight? You know the feeling when you’re all excited and manage to stick to your plan for a few days? You eat healthy, you work out and then you give in to your cravings and eat the whole kitchen?
Then you feel so bad thinking you ruined everything…all that progress you made.
But the truth is you didn’t! We all fail from time to time to stick to our plans but it’s important not to quit. You fall, you get back up!
Everybody has their good and not so good moments in life. That’s how life is. Stop tormenting yourself over what happened in the past. Nothing good will come out of it.
You’re just going to hurt yourself even more. You can’t go back and change the past. But, you can learn and build a better future.
Stop recreating and living in your past only because of the fear of losing those moments. Or of fear of something new. Forgive yourself if you need to.
Move forward and allow change into your life. Let new opportunities, new moments and new memories come to you.
Learn from failure, get up and get going! Don’t live in your past. Clinging to what it was or what might have been, how you could have done it differently… won’t do you any good, it’s only a waste of time and energy. It’s holding you back.
You can’t change the past. You can only be thankful for the lessons taught.
Being afraid of what may happen and postponing things endlessly won’t get you anywhere. Time flies! Start living your life.
Each day it’s a gift, a new opportunity for you to make that positive change in your life, a chance to have new experiences and awesome memories.
